4 And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 5 The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. 6 John wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. 7 And this was his message: “After me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. 8 I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
Have you ever met someone who was absolutely radical about something? What did you think of that person? In our modern society there are a variety of things to go crazy for. These can go from sports teams, to movies, to music, to video games, ect. That list could be endless. It is important to understand that idolatry still exist today. We may not have hand-carved statues of Gods, but we have billboards football teams and celebrities. As Christians we shouldn’t be crazy for something more than crazy for Jesus. If we get to that point then idolatry has taken place. Rather than be a die hard fan of Bruce Willis (see what i did there) be like John from the passage above. Love Jesus with all you have and speak His truth. And if people begin to mock you, then you will know that you are where Jesus wants you.
